This is a post that has been sitting in my reader for 6 months! Better late than never right? The pictures are out of order and it wasn't an easy fix so I just left them as is.
My mom coming in the home stretch...her first 5k ever!
Me finishing, new pr!
My other brother finishing right before. He was so hungover that morning and would not let it go that he beat me!
Overall this was such a fun race! It was a last minute decision to run a race in Indy while I was home for the 4th of July this past summer. I purchased three extra entries just in case some of my family members wanted to run or walk the race with me. It was on a Saturday about 40 minutes away so we all caravan ed to Franklin. Franklin is a small town outside of Indy where my brother and sister go to college. Some bullet points so I don't get too wordy with this recap...
- Fun, scenic course that went through several local parks in downtown Franklin.
- Small town races are the bomb! Helpful staff, no registration lines, creative prizes (think potted flowers, etc.) affordable, and of course a smaller racing crowd.
- Out and back course which in a 5k is not that bad of a thing, on the way out I took it all in while trying to keep my pace and breathing steady. On the way back I tried to pick off people one by one...verrry slowly.
- Water stations were far and few, after this race I started running with water...soo much better! I love having access to it at all times. Will definitely race with water in future races.
- Running with family or friends is the best! I have only ever run by myself and not even had fans there except my first 5k. Passing my family and cheering them on was distracting from the run and so motivating. Loved it. Might have to make it a yearly tradition to do a race in the summers when I go home.
- This proved to me that consistent training and focus does pay off! After a sad and slow Easter 5k I really wanted to get a new pr and I did! Such a good feeling.
- Huge confidence boost as a runner to gain a new pr on a fun course with my family.

CONGRATS, Cole!! :) That's awesome!
